River City United (RCU) was formed to provide soccer players in the greater Sacramento area a place to receive professional soccer training. RCU is part of the River City Youth Soccer League, which is composed of nine recreational soccer clubs -- Arden Park, FEC, BAC, Rosemont, Natomas, Sacramento North, St. Ignatius, Sierra Oaks and Del Dayo -- and the River City Metro Club.

The mission of RCU is to provide a place for high level players to train and develop. RCU fields boys and girls teams from under 10 to under 19. The younger teams focus primarily on technical skill development. Winning and losing is not part of the training program when the players are in the younger age divsions so they can focus on improving the finer parts of their game. Many of the RCU teams play indoor soccer in the off season for fun and off season conditioning.
